Essay Bio-engineered Processed Food - 1667 Words

In the past years, food has been increasingly changing from natural food to bio-engineered processed food. Modern civilization has changed the type of food people intake. The market has found the way to conserve and present their food in a way which attracts customers to buy them. In today’s society, companies transport food to places which were difficult before to reach in other places. In consequence, companies began to utilize chemicals and preservatives in order to aid in the maintenance of the food during the travel. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, food additive is â€Å"any substance the intended use of which results or may reasonable be expected to result — directly or indirectly — in its becoming component or†¦show more content†¦These benefits are an advantage for food companies because it promotes their products to be more attractive to the customer’s eyes, and gives the chance for companies to sell in out of st ate cities. Even if it is an advantage to food companies, many foods lose their nutrients when being processed and chemically changed. The American Cancer Society stated that â€Å"Food processing may also alter foods in ways that might affect cancer risk. An example is the refining of grains, which greatly lowers the amount of fiber and other compounds that may reduce cancer risk† (â€Å"Food Additives and Organic Foods†). Altering food has the potential of losing its natural nutrients which benefit our health in fighting against other diseases. Science has being chemically changing the food structures by increasing the size of vegetables and fruits, in which many have began to lose many of its natural nutrients. Food additives change the structure of the food products; it makes the food chemically different from what it was originally. In consequence of the many food additives which are added to food sold to the public, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration wa s created to regulate food additives.
